10 Things You Can Do in the Next 10 Days to Raise Your Consciousness

By Kimberley Jace

How’s your relationship with yourself? Do you feel pride in your accomplishments? Do you have an unshakable sense of who you really are? You might have a strong religious faith. But although it tells you something about God, it doesn’t tell you much about finding the God in yourself.

Maybe you think higher consciousness is available only to yogis and gurus. Yet many people just like you have elevated their consciousness, and changed their lives.

The truth is, to reach enlightenment, you have to have a place to start. Examining your beliefs about yourself is the first step – because whatever you believe, that is what you will become. Change what you believe, and you can become anything.

In Raising Your Consciousness Level from Ultimate Destiny University, you’ll find a self-assessment quiz that reveals your underlying attitudes about who you are, as well as material to help you understand the results, and references to the books that really make a difference – books that teach you how to understand which beliefs about yourself are moving you upward – and which are holding you down.

Can’t wait to start? If your self-image is a little fuzzy, here are 10 things you can do in the next 10 days to take the first steps on the path toward higher consciousness. Read one item from this list each day and work on incorporating it into your life. As you add new skills, don’t forget to keep up the lessons from the earlier days.

These are subtle but important changes in perspective and behavior that will help you become the most prosperous person you can be.

Read one item from this list each day and work on incorporating it into your life. As you add new skills, don’t forget to keep up the lessons from the earlier days. These are subtle but important changes in perspective and behavior that will help you attract the prosperity you want and deserve.

1. Stop negative talk. Decide that today, and from here on, that you will never describe yourself – or anyone else -- in negative terms. Catch yourself if you say, “I’m such a loser” or “She’s screwed this up again.” If you want to love and enjoy yourself, and other people, stop sending energy to negative concepts.

2.Visualize. Take some time to form a mental picture of yourself as someone who really knows his own mind. How will that change your mood and outlook? Most importantly, what will you believe about yourself? Picture yourself following the path of someone you admire. (“What would Jesus do? What would my grand-dad have done?”) Develop the most complete picture you can of yourself as someone who is sure of yourself, and return to that image often throughout the day.

3. Affirm. It’s not enough to just stop saying negative things; you must say that you are blessed. No matter what condition you are in at this moment, you have the power to claim a better condition. When you wake up in the morning, say aloud, “I will keep my mind and heart open as I begin my day.” As you drive, repeat, “I know who I am, and no one can make me feel like less.” Before you retire at night, say aloud, “I’m part of the family of humanity, and I’m improving all the time.” Draw energy to that perfect vision of yourself by describing your vision in words – out loud – and often

4. Pray. If you’re not a religious type, or not sure you believe in God, you can still pray as if you do believe in something that’s greater than yourself. Ask for help from “whatever gods may be” in developing a strong sense of your own values and virtues. Remember that the higher power who created you also accepts you just as you are. Then pray in three parts to improve any area of your life that needs improvement: request, affirm, and thank. “Spirit, I want to be more tolerant. I now accept that others’ opinions are as important as my own. Thank you for helping me be patient and open-minded.”

5. Write a goal. Catalog yourself. Begin with that perfect picture of yourself from Day #2 and write out a detailed description of that person’s behavior, as if you were describing an exotic species – but the finest specimen. Include your strengths (“very energetic”) and imagine your weaknesses as turned into strengths (“makes mature choices”). Describe your daily activities as they would appear to an outsider (“enjoys swimming in the afternoon.”)

6. Write a plan. If there are parts of that description that are not yet true, think of what it will take to make them true. To get from where you are to where you want to be will require action. Do you need to spend more time with positive, confident people? Do you need to read inspirational books and attend motivational lectures? Do you need to spend time with those whose opinions you don’t understand, to see where their beliefs parallel yours? Choose one action plan and write down the first step. If you decide to spend more time with positive people, the first step might be figuring out where those people are. Many millionaires say the first step to their success was getting to know a millionaire.

7. Feel grateful. It might sound counter-intuitive to be “thankful” for the growth in your life when you feel like you’re still stuck in neutral. But that attitude of gratitude will help you grow. Look back on the way you thought and felt five years ago, and 20 years ago, and as a child. Thank your higher power for all the experiences, good and bad, that have led you to the things you now understand about yourself. Hold that feeling in your heart.

8. Forgive. This is a difficult step for many people, but it’s vital. Remember: only you can deny yourself anything. You can’t control what has happened to you or what happens in the future, but you have complete control over how you react. If you think others have held you back, find a way to see this as part of a learning process for you, bringing you slowly in touch with your own strength. If you’ve done things you are ashamed of, forgive yourself, too. You did what you knew how to do then, and now you’re learning a better way.

9. Release the past. Release the past. Let go of the way things used to be. You don’t have to be the way you’ve always been. See your life as a process of growth and improvement, and when old ways of thinking crop up, recognize them as part of the part – not part of the future. Break old negative patterns and let go of the person you were before. You are born anew.

10. Let joy in. Sometimes we become so bombarded by negativity from others, we forget to appreciate how precious we are. The higher power that made you left a little portion of himself within you. When you are in touch with that part of yourself, you’ll feel joy. Joy is often fleeting; recognize it when it comes and savor it fully. It will return more often.

After you’ve spent 10 days unlearning bad habits, learning good ones, and adding activities to your day, see if you can keep them up for another 10 days, and then perfect them in the 10 days after that. Pray, visualize and affirm every day. Watch what you say and think, and keep yourself positive. Forgive those who wrong you and feel grateful for the things that go right. Keep writing down your goals and action plans. When you catch yourself clinging to old ways, let them go. And let yourself feel good about it!

One month from today, you’ll be headed in a whole new direction – toward ever-higher levels of consciousness
