Introduction to Benefit Corporations and B Corps
This new corporation subtype allows entrepreneurs
and investors to organize stock corporations that can pursue both
economic and social objectives.
Benefit Corporations are a new class of cause-oriented corporation
that:
(1) creates a
material positive impact on society and the environment;
(2) expands
fiduciary duty to require consideration of non-financial interests
when making decisions
(3) reports on its overall social and environmental performance
using recognized third party standards.
Certified B Corporations are a new type of corporation which uses
the power of business
to solve social and environmental problems. B Lab, a nonprofit
organization, certifies B Corporations. There are over 500 Certified
