Benefit Corporations and B Corps for Dummies

October 19, 2012

Greetings Jay, Bart, Andrew and Heather:

Thank you again for the positive response Heather sent in response to my request to reprint some of your content in the publications I am working on as part of our campaign to help establish a national network of Community Economic Development Benefit Corporations and Resource Centers that will utilize Crowd Funding provisions of the JOBS Act.

As part of that work, I attended the Crowddfunding Bootcamp in Las Vegas last week where I met Sherwood Neiss and Zak Cassady-Dorion and learned about their forthcoming book from John Wiley and Sons, Crowdfund Investing for Dummies. That inspired me to follow up with you and suggest that you approach Wiley with a proposal on Benefit Corporations and B Corps for Dummies if you haven't already done so. Here is their link for submission of book proposals http://www.dummies.com/Section/Write-Dummies-Books.id-323934.html

They do require submission through a literary agent. If you don't already have an agent, I am sure that my agent, Bill Gladstone of Waterside Productions, would be happy to represent you as he has previously sold titles to Wiley.

Also at the boot camp I also met Douglas Ellenhoff of crowdESQ.com. He became very interested in your work when we talked for a few minutes about my project. He said that his firm might be interested in helping promote your work (possibly by producing events like the one on crowdfunding) and he asked if I would introduce you to him. His firm is Ellenoff Grossman & Schole LLP, 150 East 42nd Street, New York, NY 10017. Phone 212-370-1300. Email Ellenoff@egsllp.com. During his presentation, he said that his firm has 61 attorneys and that 10 of them are focusing on crowd funding.

I deeply appreciate the visionary work you are doing and look forward to collaborating in any and every possible way.

Charles, This is a cool idea.  Unfortunately, we don't have the bandwidth to pursue it right now.  Thanks for thinking of us and let's revisit in the New Year.  Best, Jay
